The Cutting Edge
We educate tomorrow’s leaders while exploring developments in advanced analytics, natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence and visualization. We use the following techniques to uncover and communicate insights.
Advanced Analytics (Predictive and Prescriptive)
Corporations are collecting large volumes of data at extraordinary speeds. Using Predictive and Prescriptive advanced analytics methods, actionable insights can be derived from these data and equip your organization with a unique competitive advantage. At our lab, students will be solving your business problem(s) by building predictive models using the advanced analytics project delivery methodology (i.e. Business Discovery, Data Collection, Data Wrangling/Cleaning, Analytical Modelling, Visualization, Insight Story-telling). Predictive and Prescriptive modelling will provide your organization with insight and foresight to make smarter business decisions faster, disrupt your business, and outperform the competition.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence – or AI – within our context is decision-making enabled by machine learning, allowing computers to learn from data without the requirement of being explicitly programmed each step of the way.
We combine statistical methods, computational intelligence and traditional symbolic AI to maximize AI’s impact on the Lab’s analytical initiatives. Our researchers are at the leading edge of deep learning and machine learning in areas that include neural networks, probabilistic models, statistical theory and natural language processing.
Cognitive
Cognitive platforms integrate technological capabilities and algorithms to create systems that interface with complex data and humans. These cognitive tools allow machines to work with data while also enabling more natural human-machine interaction.
Data Visualization
Information design and data visualization represents the clear and effective presentation of information, encompassing principles from strategy, graphic design, design thinking, psychology, communication theory, data science and data architecture. At the Lab, we create visualizations to enable the exploration of data, and to effectively visualize and communicate our findings.
